Rescue Dogs
Roll of Honour
This page is in honour of the dogs that we have had the privilege to spend time with before they passed peacefully away.
Cap
Cap had been badly abused when he came into our care. He was pitifully thin and very loving but only with people he knew. He was in our care for four years and was nine years old when after a long illness he had to be helped peacefully on his journey over Rainbow Bridge Kep
Kep came into our care when he was an elderly gent. He stayed with us as his temperament was not very good but he settled down and became a old rascal. He was a wonderful fifteen year old gent when he went over Rainbow Bridge Autumn 2011Oscar
Oscar came into the care of the Trust as very emaciated elderly dog. He was very weak and in poor health but with a lot of time, patience and medication he had a wonderful two extra years of life with us. His last few months were spent in the office emptying the recycle bag, barking at anything that displeased him and generally making sure his presence was felt. Bless him.Moss
Moss was an elderly gent when he came into our care with a breathing problem. He was adopted by two wonderful people who knew that although he was still active they would not have him for a long time. Thanks to them he spent his last year being a very special boy in a home filled with love. Our old dogs need people like Moss\'s guardians to give them a final loving home of their own
Craig - Rainbow Bridge 2010
Craig (Jake) was very aggressive to both people and other dogs when he came to us. He became a happy and relaxed dog who played with the other dogs and ignored people he did not know. A photograph of Craig is on the front of the book Understanding and Handling Dog Aggression and his rehabilitation and training is depicted at the close of each chapter. Jake, you may have crossed Rainbow Bridge in January 2010 but the things you taught me throughout your life will always be with me.
Barbara
Mac - Rainbow Bridge 2009
Mac had been found abandoned in a country park when he came into the care of the Trust. He was weak, had arthritis in his back legs and for a while we were not sure if he would make it. But he did and became eligible for our senior dog foster scheme. Sarah Ainge gave him a loving home for the last few months of his life and made him a very happy old dog. Below is a quote from Sarah:
Mac was a very special dog, in the short time he had with us he touched many people and made lots of friends. He had a tough time prior to being with us but he forgave the world and believed that everyone was here to fuss him. He thoroughly enjoyed going out for walks and then coming home for a cuddle. He could still be obstinate but his love for life was always evident. Mac guided me through a tough time in my life and was always there for me when I needed him. Mac was truly a light in my life and a wonderful dog, if I ever have a dog that is half as good as him then I will be very lucky.
Sam - Rainbow Bridge 2009
Sam came into the care of the Trust in February 2008. He had spent his life on a farm and when his owner died he was left on the farm on his own. Sam was put peacefully to sleep in February 2009 at nearly sixteen years old. He was a lovely old gentleman and the last year of his life was spent in wonderful retirement.Coz - Rainbow Bridge 2008
Coz was ten when he came into the care of the Trust and in 2007 he went into senior dog foster. Sadly Coz had to be put peacefully to sleep in December 2008 and we are grateful to Catriona McKay and her family for giving Coz such a loving home. Below is a tribute to Coz from Catriona
My memories of him are still so vivid - he never left my side and often sat with his head on my knee for hours on end. He was the most fantastic and loving dog and one who I will remember for the rest of my days.
Goodbye Coz - wait for me at Rainbow Bridge - I miss you so much.
Catriona.
Meg
Meg suffered from fits, her guardians tried every means possible to be able to give her a chance of a normal life but as the quality diminished she had to be peacefully sent on her journey over Rainbow Bridge. We are grateful to her guardians for all the love and care they gave her.Glyn - Rainbow Bridge 2008
Born in 1993 came into Mainline Border Collie Centre as a rescue in 1996 and became a resident of The Trust in 2007. Glyn was a well bred ISDS registered dog who was well trained originally and then fell into the wrong hands and suffered mental cruelty. When we took him into care he had many behavioural problems making it difficult to rehome him so despite his young age he was given permanent sanctuary.Glyn was put peacefully to sleep in July 2008 after a long, happy and contented life.Tosha - Rainbow Bridge 2008
Ambassador dog Mainline Tosha had to be put peacefully to sleep in March 2008 due to a serious illness. She was a wonderfully kind and sensitive dog, a registered P.A.T dog and a good sheepdog. Tosha has been a much loved and valuable member of the Mainline team and a loyal and hard working ambassador dog and is sadly missed.Pippin - Rainbow Bridge 2007
Pippin came into The Trust as a wayward young dog, who at two years old was full of mischief. In eighteen months he learned how to work sheep; he took part in seminars and workshops and earned himself a place on the team of Trust Ambassador Dogs.Nan - Rainbow Bridge 2008
Nan was almost sixteen when we had to have her peacefully put to sleep in October 2008. She came into our care when she was nine years old, her owner had a terminal illness and because of the behavioural problems Nan had she was concerned that no-one would give her a home. She has been a wonderful and very feisty lady while she has been in our care. She became very frail in her last few weeks and she is now at peace.Jack - Rainbow Bridge 2007
Jack came into our care when he was ten years old and his owner could no longer keep him. He was a wonderful, kind dog and spent his retirement digging in the dog paddock, chewing bones in his pen or going for gentle walksCleo - Rainbow Bridge 2006
Cleo was a farm dog and was ten years old when her owner passed away. The farm had to be sold and finding a home for an active but older working dog proved difficult, so she came into our care for her retirement. She loved to work the sheep whenever she got the opportunity and when not working she spent time enjoying her retirement with Jack.
